This game is essentially a clone of the old Hamurabi game, with research and warfare mechanics added.

In this game, you will run a small kingdom. You have three resources that you must manage: population, land, and grain.

Rules

  • You will have 10 years to rule your kingdom.
  • Each person in your kingdom will need 20 bushels of grain to survive.
  • Each person can only plant a maximum of 10 acres of farmland.
  • Each acre of land planted needs a bushel of grain.
  • The price of land fluctuates each year from 17 to 26 bushels of grain per acre.

Research

  • Research is not available in classic play.
  • Every researcher gives you a research point each year.
  • A d100 roll must be lower than our equal to your research points to gain a tech level.
  • Research points continue to accumulate until you reach a breakthrough, at which point research points reset to zero.
  • The d100 roll for a breakthrough only happens in years that you actually have researchers working.
  • Each tech level increases your yield per acre, decreases your chances of getting hit by a plague, and decreases the amount of grain that's lost to rats.
  • The number of researchers plus farmers cannot exceed your total population. Farmers equal the number of acres farmed divided by ten (rounded up).

Warfare

  • Warfare is not available in classic play.
  • Warriors cost an extra ten grain per warrior.
  • Warriors can be killed in battle. If the number of people who die in battle plus the number of people who starved is greater than half your population, the people will not be happy. They will rise up and overthrow you.
  • Warriors have a chance to capture territory.
  • Each tech level reduces the number of warriors killed and raises the amount of land captured, due to having better equipment.
  • The number of researchers plus farmers plus warriors cannot exceed your total population.
